Wordsmithing

Class began slightly different today. Students seem to be at many different places with their IR journals, so I had everybody turn in their IR journals no matter where they are on them, and we will start fresh tomorrow.

Also, students retook portions of their quiz based on areas where they struggled last week. Students had to retake the portion they reviewed in groups on Friday, but they could retake any other portion they wanted to as well. They did this through the google forms posted to their google classroom. When done, students moved into IR.

It was finally time for us to visit the book fair! Students had 10 – 15 minutes to peruse the fair today, but if you didn’t have money, don’t worry about it! The fair runs through the end of the day on Wednesday. 🙂

When we returned to the classroom, students participated in a stations activity that had them working with mood, tone, and connotation. The looked at different sentences, pictures, and passages and worked with their partners to analyze mood/tone and revise word choice, so the connotation of the word chosen properly matched the mood/tone.

Students ended class with time to work on sentences for their weekly words from last week and to get started on their homework.
